Electronics and ESD workstations
Any bench where components can be damaged by static discharge needs a dedicated anti-static chair. For standard 900 mm benches in workshop conditions, specify PU rather than upholstery: the Budget PU Bench-Height Lab Chair (A12) for cost-conscious fit-outs, or the Deluxe PU Bench-Height Lab Chair (001) where staff sit for longer spells. What is the difference between an ESD chair and a standard lab chair?
The materials and the path to ground. ESD chairs use conductive or dissipative seat materials, components and castors or glides so static charge drains away continuously. A standard lab chair has no controlled discharge path. Outside static-sensitive areas, a standard PU or upholstered lab chair is the right specification.
Which seat material lasts longest in a workshop?
Polyurethane (PU). It's a solid, self-skinned seat that wipes clean and resists oils, swarf and daily knocks. Upholstered seats are more comfortable for long seated spells but suit cleaner environments — labs and offices rather than workshop floors.
